Most people would probably never guess what is the tallest statue in the world and where is it located. Lushan County, Henan in China is the home of the world’s tallest statue.
The Spring Temple Buddha stands 420 feet (128 meters) tall, making this statue an amazing sight. If you account the 82 ft (25 m) pedestal/building it is placed on, the total height goes up to 502 ft (153 m). To put this in perspective, this statue is 1.65 times taller than the Statue of Liberty, and 3.85 times taller than the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer from Rio.
Estimated costs for this statue are around $18 million. It consist of around 1,100 pieces of copper cast, with a total weight of 1,000 tonnes. Beneath the statue is a Buddhist monastery.
